I have lived in Preston for two years. I am leaving very soon and while I am very excited, there are things I will miss about my life here. I got to meet and work with some great people and I am so grateful for everything these past two years have taught me. Even though I might not like Preston as a city, I have made some great memories here. This is where I got my first teaching job!! This is where I sent out my first job applications and went to my first formal interviews. This is where I got my first job after uni.
As I have already mentioned, even though I am really looking forward to moving back home, there are things I will miss from this place. I want to have this post as something to look back on. So, here is a list of random little things I will miss about living here, in Preston.
1 – Perhaps one of the things I will miss the most is Avenham Park. Not only is this park really close to our house, but it is stunning!!! It is right next to the river and, no matter what time of the day, it always looks so beautiful. It is such a peaceful place with so much beauty. I don’t think I will ever find a place quite like it.
2 – Cycle lanes. I finally learned how to ride a bike and I now feel so grateful that there are so many cycle lanes all around Preston. Cycle lanes are not so popular in Cyprus so I am sure this is something I will miss.
3 – Costco. It is just a wholesale ‘supermarket’, but shopping there is such an adventure. Alex and I always find the coolest stuff there! And we always finish off our shopping with a huge slice of Costco Margarita pizza and ice cream (which is just the cherry on top).
4 – Parks. I will miss all parks, even the ones I am not a huge fan of. Having access to a huge plot of land that is full of trees and nicely trimmed grass should not be underrated. You can have picnics there, play sports or run around with your dog and do all the simple things that bring so much joy.
5 – This is more of a funny one but also very true, I will miss the chippy. Having deliciously unhealthy comfort food, right next door, hasn’t been bad at all. In fact, it has been amazing.
6 – 24hour supermarkets. This is another thing we don’t have in Cyprus (not as far as I know anyway) and even though it’s not often we do our food shopping at 12 a.m. it is always nice having the option.
7 – Last but not least, I know I will miss our little studio which Alex and I turned into a home. I have so much love for this place but at the same time, I am so excited to move.
Thank you for reading this sweet and short post this week. Make sure to come back next Wednesday for an exciting blog
