This post is going to be nothing like what I usually post on my blog, but with that said, it is still something I felt like I needed to write about. The best way I can describe it is a “life update” post, on the topic of blogging and my journey with it. So if this is something you are interested to know more about, keep on reading.
In order to give you guys a context, I will start off with behind the scenes of putting together a blog post. I am sure this will look different for different bloggers (depending on if they are doing it as a hobby or a full-time job but even just depending on their personal style of blogging) but this is what it looks like for me.
Even though there is no particular order to the steps I will mention below, they all have to come together at one point or another, in order to form a completed blog post.
1. Think of the topic. What am I going to write about? What is this blog post going to be focused on?
2. Actually, sit down and write the blog post on that set topic.
3. Put together an outfit that actually complements the blog post I wrote.
4. Location hunt for pictures.
5. Actually, go to set location and take the pictures.
6. Edit the pictures and decided which ones will make into the blog post.
7. Format: put together pictures and writing. Which funnily enough takes a lot longer than one would think. Not that it takes me like an hour, but there is a lot of trial and error.
8. Proofread. Yes, I do proofread my blog posts but I guess I am not doing the best job because I somehow always leave in little mistakes. Oh well.
9. Publish!! 🙂
10. Share on social media.
And this is what putting together a blog post, looks like for me.
I love the process and this is why I am doing it. However, since this is not my career or my actual job, I do not want this blog to cause me any stress or put pressure on other areas of my life. And this links to why I haven’t been consistent…
All the steps I mentioned above, have to come together, in order to create a blog post. Often times, I miss one or more of those steps. Sometimes I don’t have any ideas on topics and I just don’t feel inspired to write something. I loved how I was consistent and posting every Wednesday (for the 3 months it lasted) but when I didn’t have a topic I really wanted to write about, there was no blog post. And like I already mentioned, since this is not my job, I didn’t want to force myself to write something just for the sake of posting on my blog because I would anyway end up deleting later on.
Another struggle was finding time to go take pictures AND finding locations. I live in Preston, which in my opinion, is a very boring place. Everything looks pretty much the same, a lot of green and a lot of stone walls and this gets old pretty quickly. Alex was working Monday-Friday and then I started working (including working every other weekend) which left us with one weekend every other week, to actually go out and take pictures. During that weekend I had to be in the mood to take pictures (yes, that’s a thing!! If I am not in a good mood the pictures neverrrr turn out good) and the weather had to be nice because the colours look so dull when the sky is grey and cloudy. And that’s not a good look.
At the moment, I actually have two blog post I have already written in full BUT I don’t have pictures to go with them. Why have I not gone out to take pictures? 1) Bad weather, 2) Ugly locations, 3) No clothes to wear. I know this may sound dramatic but it’s the truth. ALL my summer clothes are back home and well, I don’t want to be writing a blog post on summer style and be wearing jeans, sneakers, and knits. I understand this may seem like a whining post but it’s not. I am only doing this because it makes me happy and when it doesn’t make me happy, I just don’t do it.
I didn’t write this post to complain about the bad weather (even though in real life I complain about that A LOT!!!) or use the fact that Preston is boring as an excuse as to why I am not posting on my blog. I wanted to write this post just to give an inside into what goes on in my head and share a few reasons why I have not posted in over two months. I honestly really enjoyed being consistent at the beginning of the year and that is something I plan on getting back into. This will not happen any time soon because A) I am still busy with actual work, so Alex and I need to sit down and discuss a schedule for taking pictures that will work for both of us. And B) I have no clothes to wear for pictures (just to make this very clear, I DO have clothes, I am not complaining about that… the problem is simply the fact that I don’t have the clothes I want here in Preston).
I will get back on track when the time is right. I am doing this for pure enjoyment. I don’t want to stress myself out for not posting or not being consistent because then I will just suck out all the fun of this. It will go from something I WANT to do, into something I just NEED to do. And well, I don’t want that. 🙂
This has been a pretty lengthy post so thank you if you’ve made it this far. If you are a returning reader, I am sorry I cannot promise frequent content going up on this blog. Nevertheless, thank you so much for coming back and showing me your support and that you actually enjoy the content I create. Again, thank out for reading and here’s to hoping that my next post will be before the end of the summer. 😉
